HAFAS User Conference 2015 with New Attendance Record and Apple Watch Premiere

Hannover Apr 30, 2015

On April 28 and 29, the Hannover Congress Centrum (HCC) once again was home to the HAFAS User Conference. As every year, software specialist HaCon invited its customers to hear about the latest product developments in timetable information as well as mobility trends and solutions. With 440 participants in 2015, HaCon announces a new attendance record.

This year, HAFAS developments for wearable devices attracted wide interest. Specifically designed for Apple Watch and Android Wear, the new smartwatch apps seamlessly complement HaCon's product portfolio. In addition to providing timetable information and ticketing, HAFAS facilitates navigation via the new devices – on board, indoors (e.g. in station buildings) and along the selected route.

Moreover, iBeacons and their potential for public transport were key topics at the conference: Installed in vehicles, buildings or tunnels, iBeacons give travelers individual routing advice: While communicating with HAFAS apps, the transmitters serve as additional sources of information that can lead the user to the relevant track section or points of entry and exit.

Under the heading of Industry 4.0, HaCon presented different forms of networked mobility involving iBeacons, smartphone sensors and alternative means of transport that are intelligently combined with each other during a journey. The Internet of Things opens up new opportunities for passenger information with mobile apps for smartphones and smartwatches playing the central role. The team of the Berlin-based HaCon Mobility Lab, founded in 2014, reported on their experiences and research results and gave an outlook to the future of mobility: The evolution of today's journey planner towards even more innovative mobility services is already in progress, with the users' needs as the most important guidelines for development.

In addition to HaCon speakers from Hannover, Berlin, Paris and London, numerous customers and partners from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the UK and the USA gave insights into their experiences with HAFAS. After the conference, the participants used the opportunity to attend product-specific workshops and gather in-depth knowledge of HAFAS Live Maps, HAFAS Smart VMS or the HAFAS Real-time Data Hub.
